The Last Dance of Michael Jordan, the Most Valuable Sports Shoeever Sold, and Jordan’s Farewell Run with the Chicago Bulls

A pair of Air Jordan 13 sneakers that basketball legend Michael Jordan wore during the 1998 NBA Finals sold at auction for $2.2 million. The Jordan sneakers from the Last Dance season are the most valuable sports footwear ever sold, according to an auction house.

“What differentiates these record-breaking sneakers is their condition. Wachter said that they were “as if Jordan lined them up and wore them yesterday.”

The Last Dance is sometimes abbreviated as “Jordan’s farewell run with the Chicago Bulls” because of the title of a documentary that chronicled the season. When Jordan announced his retirement weeks before the finals, the six-game series against the Utah Jazz was the most watched in NBA history. (Jordan would later return from 2001 to 2003 to play with the Washington Wizards, but did not win another championship).

The ball boy in the visitor’s locker room received a signed set of worn shoes from Jordan following the game, as he was known to do.

A soccer jersey from Pelé’s debut for the New York Cosmos sold for $177,000, and a Kobe Bryant shooting shirt sold for over $400,000.
