The N.C.A.A. tournament will have matchups to watch on Monday

The Eagles and Huskies in the N.C.A.A tournament: The Final Eight Spectator Spots for the NCAA Tournament

The eight final spots in the N.C.A.A. women’s basketball tournament will be decided Monday. Follow along with the bracket and live scores, and check out our picks for the games we don’t want to miss (teams organized by seed; all times Eastern):

For the second year in a row, the Eagles won the N.C.A.A. tournament and were a No. 12 seed. It was a win over Washington State. Sha Carter led Florida Gulf Coast with 24 points, and Tishara Morehouse added 16 points. The Eagles held the leading scorer to 5 points. They may have a harder time putting the clamps on Villanova’s star forward, Maddy Siegrist. In Villanova’s 76-59 first-round win against Cleveland State, Siegrist scored 35 points and became the fifth Division I women’s player in N.C.A.A. history with at least 1,000 points in a single season.

Indiana dominated Tennessee Tech on Saturday in the first round of the N.C.A.A. tournament. Miami, on the other hand, needed a 17-point comeback in the second half to beat Oklahoma State. The Hoosiers are trying to reach their third consecutive round of 16 game, while Miami is going to have to wait for a second weekend in a row. The universities met in the second round of this year’s men’s tournament as well.

Alabama raced to a 18 point lead in the first quarter, and the ninth-seeded Bears were not able to recover. The Bears recovered from an early deficit to win, 78-74. UConn faced no such struggles, racing to a 53-20 halftime lead on the way to a 95-52 win over Vermont. The last time the two teams met in the NCAA tournament, in the round of 8, the game ended on a missed shot from the Bears that was tightly controlled by two Connecticut defenders, a play that was loudly decried after the game due to the absence of a foul call. Is it possible that we can get the same drama in the second one?

The first round of games in the Sweet 16 was full of drama, like in the previous rounds of March Madness.

The Florida Atlantic Owls upset the fourthseeded Tennessee Volunteers, and Markquis Nowell became the first person in NCAA history to score over 100 points in a game as Kansas State beat the Michigan State Spartans in overtime.

Before the game May had said that he wouldbrace his team’s Cinderella tag but also that they had the capability to progress despite their seeding.

The Milwaukee Volunteers fought so hard in the first game of the Sweet 16 tournament with a 21-point lead by Nowell and Strawther

The Volunteers were leading 27-22 at the half at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, but the Volunteers were only down 40-28 in the second half.

“We can’t be counted out no more man.” We’re here to stay and we’re going to keep fighting no matter who we line up against, who we play,” said FAU guard Nick Boyd in the postgame press conference.

“I got a group of brothers that play together and I feel like there’s nobody in the country that loves each other like we do and works like [we do] so we’re going to keep making statements.”

Kansas State defeated Michigan State 98-93 in overtime on Thursday night in the opening game of the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Nowell was the first man in men’s Division I or NBA history to finish with over twenty points, 19+ assists, and 5+ steals in a game, and he had an injured right ankle.

“All glory to god, man he gave me these gifts and these talents and I’m just glad that I get the platform to showcase them, and I have a ton of faith,” Nowell said after the victory.

Nowell’s standout performance drew the attention of some of the sport’s biggest names with Lakers legend Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson and Kevin Durant singing his praises.

Then with under 10 seconds on the clock, up stepped Julian Strawther. The 20-year-old guard won the game with a clutch three from the edge of the halfcourt logo, reminiscent of then-Bulldog Jalen Suggs’ game winner in 2021.

Strawther said after the game that it was moments like that that you can’t make up. “Those are literally the moments you dream of, to even make a shot like that in March Madness.”
